Pioneers of New Earth
"You aren't full of joy at the thought of heaven. And it's your fault."
I mean, people don't really say it that way. But it's what they really mean. Not unlike faith healing taken to its most extreme. "If you aren't healed, it's because you didn't have enough faith."
Peter Kreeft says it in his book on heaven:
“Faith in heaven’s presence produces the greatest psychological revolution imaginable. If we don’t observe this revolution taking place in ourselves, it can be for only one reason: Our faith is much smaller than a grain of mustard seed.”
We've lost the key ingredient in "setting our mind on things above". The one indispensable catalyst that must precede faith: biblical imagination.
What we've done with heaven is paint heaven a gray canvas, and then gaslight people for not living as if heaven is their home.
Genuine revelation must precede any kind of "psychological revolution".
Imagination will feed fidelity.
And when we start to drink up the biblical portrait of heaven on earth... you don't have to manufacture joy. There's no feigned enthusiasm.
There is an impossible joy associated with your destiny in Christ. There's a path to recovering the whole story. The path belongs to every pioneer who longs for their true home, their native country and won't settle for the best of the world. You want a pilgrimage to your native country, New Earth, the City of God.
Every bit of attention you invest in filling your mind with God's vision of the future – it's worth it. In the weeks to come, we will dig deeper into "why" that's true. What kind of fruit this will yield in your daily life.
